The Contra Costa Climate Action Network (Contra Costa CAN) formed in March 2019 when 15 grass roots climate action groups came together & began meeting regularly to foster new connections & discuss shared insights with a view to widen our knowledge of each other’s work and goals.
Contra Costa CAN has met regularly through September 2020 to bridge and catalyze new connections among a growing group of individuals and organizations. Our convenings have focused on highlighting different areas of climate action underway, discussion of gaps in action, and providing a space for informal conversations among advocates and activists to educate, build ties and find ways to support each other.
A major goal of the network is to connect people around issues of climate action & inspire new relationships that enables movement building.

What is a network?
It is important to make the distinction that CCCAN is not a coalition or organization. We are a network of individuals and organizations who prioritize action on climate and environmental justice in our County focused on making the full range of activity, our “action ecosystem” in Contra Costa visible and encouraging strengthening this “action ecosystem” by encouraging more networking and connection.
Contra Costa CAN sees cultivating ties and relationships across our different action areas as a way to help us achieve greater impact. With new connections, there are more individuals and group to provide support, show up for each other and stimulate new action ideas.
Since 2019, our Network has sought to:
- foster relationships among climate action groups in CC County
- catalyze new connections that can lead to action
- encourage reflection and learning about our work and stimulate additional, effective climate action.
